bristolDecision over 30,000-seat stadium now rests with the secretary of state

Bristol City FC’s new £60m stadium has received a “minded to approve” verdict from the local council’s planning committee and has now been referred to the secretary of state who will decide whether to call in the application or not.

With Bristol being named as one of 12 potential host cities as part of England’s 2018 bid, the new stadium will have a 30,000 capacity which could be expanded to 42,000 if England hosts the World Cup in 2018.

Capita Symonds is providing project and cost management.

hole_in_driveWelsh fire crew rescues victim who fell into 8m hole after concrete collapsed under her feet

A woman in Deeside, Wales, has fell into an 8m-deep hole in her driveway after the concrete gave way beneath her.

Firefighters were called to the scene yesterday and used rope rescue equipment to pull her out of the hole, which was full of water. Attempts at rescue with a ladder failed as it would not reach the bottom of the hole.

The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics but did not required hospital treatment.

Peter Griffith, fire crew watch manager at White Watch Deeside, said: “Crews bridged a ladder across the hole and were able to secure a rope around the woman and pull her to safety.

“The lady involved reported that the concrete on her driveway gave way as she walked and she fell into the cavity beneath. Firefighters worked extremely well together at this unusual incident and helped to reassure the woman who was cold, wet and understandably very frightened.”
