Construction complete at £15m Connah’s Quay shopping centre

September 29th, 2010

COUNCILLORS in Connah’s Quay have celebrated a significant milestone at the town’s new £15m shopping centre.

Developer St Modwen, one of the UK’s leading regeneration specialists, has finished its work on the 72,000sq ft scheme, which includes a huge food outlet.

The Morrisons building has now been handed over to the company for a comprehensive internal fit-out before it opens its doors in early November.

Cllr Peter Macfarlane said: “I wish to congratulate St Modwen on transforming what was a derelict site into a magnificent retail centre.

“This is a major regeneration project and a vote of confidence in our community.”

Cllr Eric Owen added: “This milestone is great news for the regeneration of Connah’s Quay.

“The new shopping centre will make a big impact in the area, bringing with it new employment opportunities, more investment from the private sector and putting Connah’s Quay back to where it belongs.”

More than 300 jobs are to be created at the Ffordd Llanarth site, which will also be home to national retailers including Greggs, Bargain Booze and Home Bargains.

The six-acre scheme will feature 12 retail units, 325 car parking spaces, improved pedestrian links and a bus pick-up point.
