We can easily fit "Low carbon" at new build stage, but it's got to be cost effective.
With the housing market still very fragile, it will be hard to recover the extra costs involved. However, this I believe as still got to be the way forward.

I've over 45 years experience in the construction industry and have seen many down turns in the market " feasts and famines" that's what I used to call them.
However, the next grown market in the industry has got to solar power i.e.: thermal PV, solar power and heat pumps. It will not be long before legislation will make it compulsory for all new homes to be fitted completely to use green energy.
We cannot keep fitting Oil & gas boilers at new build stage.

The Green Deal should go further than insulating your home. There should be better grants and tariffs in place to make affordable to install Solar Power i.e.; Pv panels, solar thermal ground & air source heat pumps. The tariffs now do not give most people the incentive to install. Perhaps an interest free scheme plus the tariffs would help.

Further to my other comment left on here a month or so ago, I had these guys do a Measured Survey for me and was pretty impressed with the speed and efficiency they demonstrated to me in producing floor plans, elevations and sections for me of a commercial property.
