Higher education establishments have provided a number of openings for construction firm Morgan Sindall, it has been claimed.
Area director at the company Richard Watts was speaking after the business secured a £17.8 million contract with the University of Sussex.
Morgan Sindall is set to construct what will be the largest lecture theatre on the establishment’s campus.
Mr Watts said the project will be the firm’s ninth initiative at the university – it recently produced a new teaching block on the site.
“The higher education market is presenting a number of opportunities for us and as always we will be working with as many local subcontractors on this scheme as possible,” he continued.
This will guarantee the project benefits the local community, Mr Watts explained.
Covering 8,000 sq m, the building is expected to provide jobs for 200 construction workers at the peak of activity.
Earlier this month, business secretary Vince Cable named a number of colleges that will receive government funding to invest in building work and renovations.
